Hawthorn & Poplar Visit Harcourt Arboretum
9th September 2008

Pupils WorkTrip Photo

The Hawthorn -Poplar trip to Oxford University's Harcourt Arboretum was a great success. The extensive and very picturesque "tree museum" contained some choice specimens including an immense Canadian Redwood tree, some Monkey Puzzles (also trees!),and a wide range of Japanese maples ( recommended for the October half-term , vivid colours and usually family special events).

The children took part in "Andy Goldsworthy" inspired art using leaves bark, cones etc to create a range of natural collages in circles and spirals and at the same time had to prompt team-mates to guess the "message" in certain pieces of work. Alongside this an grounds tour unearthed all sorts of flora (and fauna!) , and the children learned a wide range of "arboricultural" information! Fortunately the weather mostly held off, and a good time was had by all. Mr Slater
