The National Gallery - Spruce |
20th November 2008 |
A bright clear day heralded a vigorous exploration of the National Gallery and Tate galleries in London. The “Renaissance faces” exhibition showed the rapid expansion of the individual and family portrait with the advances of the Renaissance in technique and equipment (early lenses etc), which tied to the current portrait work being undertaken by Spruce. This was followed by the study of some delightful landscapes by Sisley, the British Impressionist, directly linked to work by Pissarro and other French artists with whom Sisley worked. All of which was set into context by a whistle-stop tour of parts of the Tate Britain Gallery, with a few eye openers as to both the skill and scale of some of the work on display. The train and underground also provided a vivid focus on the London landscape, which was enjoyed by all! Unfortunately there were no photos, look out for some pupils art work from the visit soon. |
