On Thursday 30th April Cedar and Birch set off for the picturesque village of Stoke Bruerne to visit the canal and itsmuseum. First of all we met Pat who was a volunteer from the museum she gave us a guided tour of all of the

surrounding areas. Pat was veryknowlegable about
the history of Stoke Bruerne and told us lots of interesting things. After the walk we were lucky enough to see a canal boat going through one of the locks and some of us got the chance to help open and close the lock gates. Next we went for a ride on a canal boat called Charlie, we drove along the canal as far as the Blisworth Tunnel, the man who owned the boat turned the lights off on the boat when we went into the tunnel to show us what it used to be like before they had electricity. After the boat ride it was time for lunch, followed by some craft activities in the education room. Olive showed us how to decorate a traditional plate that was used to decorate the canal boats in the past. We also got the chance to dress up in the traditional costumes that the children who lived on the boats used to wear. After this we all went into the museum to have a look around at all of the interesting objects from the past, we also completed a quiz about the canals. At the end of a very busy and interesting day we said a big thank you to Pat and to Olive and we got back onto the minibus for our return to school.
