A senior fixture for netball and with the sun shining for a change it made for a lovely afternoon. The girls led their own warm-up and already were working well as a team with a lovely atmosphere amongst them. The game started very competitively and it was clear that the game was going to be evenly matched throughout. Passing from both sides was quick and a little frantic in the first quarter with both sides losing possession with rushed passes. After the first quarter the score was 2-1 so there was lots to play for going forwards. After a few changes with positions the second quarter was equally competitive. Maya Shah made some super movements into space taking the ball with ease and helped to move the ball into our attacking third with support from Oluchi Nwuga and Caitlin Hendry. The score at half-time was 6-3 with 2 further goals from both Caitlin Hendry and Iman Komane. With some position changes again into the third quarter The Grove demonstrated some really tight marking in defence and made it really difficult for Beachborough shooters to get into the circle. Mariam Elakama played very well in Goal Defence in this quarter staying close and intercepting a number of passes to a very competent Goal Attack. Although The Grove didn’t score in this quarter despite chances, they also managed to stop any score from Beachborough. The final quarter of the game was very tight and although the girls all worked hard, tiredness became the main factor for the final loss of 7-4. What a super game though and all girls were an absolute credit to the school.
